Real Birth Stories
All too often, I'll hear a mom-to-be tell me that some well intentioned, seasoned mother in a waiting room shared their birth horror story with her. She's Googled herself into a frenzy and is full of doubt regarding the ability to have anything less than an excruciating experience. We've all seen the movies where screaming moms are being wheeled into labor and delivery by frantic dads, pushing their babies out the minute their water breaks. This is not reality, my friends!
I've learned that the general public's perception of birth isn't very close to the reality I've witnessed behind closed doors. So, I decided to start a collection of positive birth stories (many of these happened locally to us here in Portland!)
Many of the parents who have shared their stories with you here have stated that they want to help others find the joy, peace and positivity that IS a reality in their birth stories. Please know that if your birth story is a difficult one, I still want to hear it. I challenge you to find the joyous, precious and special parts of even your difficult births.
You deserve to be heard.

Kacey's Home Birth
Sterling’s due date was a Tuesday. I had just hired a new barista, Elise, so I met with her in the morning to get her paperwork filled out and did a quick orientation to the cafe. I had a nice visit from a lady named Amber and she told me her pleasant home birth story. I ran by the optometrist to pick up my new glasses. It was fun to answer with “Today!” when people asked when I was due. (read more...)
