Hi! I'm Kathy...I'm honored that you're considering choosing me to support you during such an important event in your life. I absolutely love what I do and consider myself so blessed to be able to work in this field. It's a childhood dream come true!
I am a certified birth & bereavement doula, which means that I've been carefully trained to support you through any type of birth diversity - and am trained to provide extra support in higher risk situations. I'm currently a college student working toward my degree in Nurse Midwifery. However, 100% of my work as a doula is non-medical, as I respect the scope of practice when I attend births as a doula. As your doula, I'm most interested in providing unconditional support. I truly don't have an opinion on the best way to bring a child into this world. I simply believe that every family deserves a professional support person by their side to guide them towards having a joyous and memorable birth experience. Do you want an epidural? Fantastic. I'll be the first person to jump when you tell us you're ready for it. Have a cesarean birth scheduled? No problem - I can help facilitate a gentle birth experience and a family centered cesarean - often accompanying my clients into the operating room. Are you birthing at a birth center or in your home? I've attended births in both of those places and can seamlessly blend with your birth team to provide an additional layer of support before, during and after your birth. I have four precious children of my own. My own birth experiences have been quite varied. My first was 30+ hours, whereas my second was a whirlwind 45 minute active labor and delivery. I've had a wonderful epidural, a beautiful intervention-free birth as well as a long and complicated induction. I've had both a doctor as a provider and a midwife. I feel my personal experiences have helped to create a special bond between me and my clients. There is a lot of value in having someone walk by your side who truly understands what you're experiencing in those moments.. When I'm not working or studying, I'm on the sidelines cheering on my kids during their many sporting activities; scouring thrift shops for treasures; experimenting with Middle Eastern cooking or digging in my vegetable garden. My grandma always told me that "busy people are happy people" - I concur! |
